Swimming pools have been a subject of fascination for many artists, from Matisse’s pool constructed from paper cut outs (La Piscine), ; Elmgreen and Dragset’s 9m high Van Gogh’s Ear (2016), which once stood on end outside the Rockefeller Centre in New York City; and of course, the California-inspired works of David Hockney, just to name three. I do not like swimming but I am attracted to the architecture, light, colours and changing forms of water in swimming pools and their often colourful accessories.
